GNOME 18th Birthday – Top Open Source Operating Systems
GNOME, the top of open source operating systems has celebrated GNOME 18th birthday on August 15th 2015. As part of GNOME 18th birthday celebration, GNOME has invited people to use hashtag #HappyBirthdayGNOME #IAMGNOME #GNOME2015.
GNOME was founded by two then-university students, Miguel de Icaza and Federico Mena Quintero. Their aim is to produce a free (as in freedom) desktop environment that is beautiful and simple to use. GNOME is developed by The GNOME Project, which is brings companies, volunteers, professionals and non-profits together from around the world. Since the emergence of GNOME, Open Source operating systems had enhanced a lot and turned in to user friendly. Open source operating system like Unix, had been since 1970. It had used command line interface, it is with the introduction and evolution of GNOME, the interaction with the operating system had been progressive through Graphical User Interface (GUI).

On May 13th 2015, the GNOME Project released a maintenance update for GNOME 3.16.2 as the last official maintenance release for the GNOME 3.16 desktop environment. This update provided many bug fixes, documentation improvements, and translation updates. In September 2015, GNOME 3.18 version is expected to release, this coincides with the GNOME 18th birthday. As stated on GNOME 18th birthday, the release of GNOME 3.18 will continue to embody GNOME founding principles.
