Alan Rickman Dies, Farewell Professor Severus Snape

The world lost Severus Snape forever. Alan Rickman, the British actor with the unforgettable voice who played the brooding Professor Severus Snape died Thursday, January 14th 2015 after a short battle with cancer. Announcing Alan Rickman’s death, a family statement said:

“The actor and director Alan Rickman has died from cancer at the age of 69. He was surrounded by family and friends.”

Alan Rickman became one of Britain’s best-loved acting stars through his roles as Hans Gruber in Die Hard and of course, the complex and iconic character as Professor Snape in the Harry Potter movies. Harry Potter’s family, such as J.K. Rowling, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Jason Isaacs have expressed their deep sorrow of their lost of Alan Rickman.

Emma Thompson, who appeared with Alan Rickman in Love Actually wrote in a statement, describing that Alan Rickman was rare and unique human being.

“Alan was my friend and so this is hard to write because I have just kissed him goodbye. What I remember most in this moment of painful leave-taking is his humour, intelligence, wisdom and kindness.”

Alan Rickman did have a clue, as he said in the thank-you letter to Rowling back on 2011 and published on Empire Magazine almost five years ago. In that letter, Alan Rickman wrote the conclusion of the film series, which saw stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint grow up on screen. He was saying farewell to his Harry Potter character Severus Snape but it couldn’t hold truer now for fans across the world who are mourning the actor.
